One-hundred-and-sixty-eight players contested a stableford competition at County Armagh Golf Club on 25 July but no one could match the heroics of winner, Roger Duggan.

Since succeeding long-serving Honorary Secretary Paddy Burns at the beginning of 2020, John Lowe has had the unenviable task, along with other key club officers, of guiding County Armagh Golf Club through the coronavirus crisis. However, amid the many hours spent on that sterling administrative work, John has clearly not allowed his golf game to suffer.

Somewhat later than normal, the Spring Open Cup, took place at Co Armagh on Thursday 23 July 2020. Ordinarily the competition is held on the first May Day Bank Holiday and is an Open competition, however, with visitors not yet permitted to play the course the event was competed for solely by Ladies from Co Armagh. Forty-nine ladies competed for the cup and the Competition Standard Scratch was 70. The winner of the Spring Open, with a fantastic 41 pts, was Colette McSorley, beating Julie McCarten, who also carded 41 pts, into second place. Bernie McBride was third with 37 pts.

County Armagh Golf Club’s recent Bankers Cup tournament was sponsored by Gary McCourt Financial Solutions, and it was Shea Smyth who made all the correct on-course calculations. On 19 July, Smyth carded a stunning three-under-par gross 67 to carry off the coveted silverware and clip his handicap from four to three.
