AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

County Armagh Golf Club's recent Presidential succession was something of a game of cat and mouse as, just like in the much-loved cartoon series, Tom followed Gerry.

CAGC’s first President of this new decade, Tom Calvert, told assembled members and guests at the New Year's Day inauguration ceremony, “I would like to thank our outgoing President Gerry McCreesh for his excellent service over the last two years, and for nominating me to be your President for 2020 and 2021. It is my privilege to take on this role.

“I also wish our new Captains, Anne McDonald and Declan McReynolds, all the best for 2020. They each do an immense amount of work for the club, and I hope they both enjoy their tenures.”

In front of a large clubhouse crowd on 1 January, Calvert paid tribute, too, to Ian and his green-keeping crew; Damien, Martin and the rest of the bar staff; Will and Lee in the Professional Shop; Elizabeth in the office; Joey and his restaurant team; caretaker Andrew; and the many diligent participants on the Ladies’ Committee and Men’s Council.

Calvert has fulfilled numerous such CAGC duties over a long period, including the Club Captaincy in 2011 and his spell as a meticulous Greens Convenor in more recent years. A continuously active member and highly accomplished golfing performer, Tom has also represented various inter-club sides with great aplomb and always remained a more than worthy contender in domestic competition.

His incumbency will peak on President’s Day sometime in the summer of 2021, an occasion that will serve as a warranted celebration of that longstanding commitment to all things CAGC. Everyone at County Armagh Golf Club hereby wishes our new President Tom and his wife Renee every success and happiness over these next two years and beyond.
