A NUMBER of County Armagh Golf Club teams have been in action in recent weeks.
The Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell teams where each involved in Qualifiying events at Loughgall and Mannan Castle, respectively. Unfortunately neither made the grade. Competitions Convenor and Pierce Purcell team captain Declan McReynolds saw his men narrowly fail to qualify – by 6 shots – at Mannan.In the alternative shots competition, the pairs representing the club were Gary Baird and Ian Millar, Seamus Toner and Eamon O’Hagan, Paul Wasson and Nelson Weir, Tommy Mackin and Brendan McKinney and Keith Stewart and Gary Livingstone.

COUNTY Armagh Golf Club's Juvenile Captain Lee Campbell is certainly planning to lead by example after winning the first Medal competition of the new season.
Lee, playing of a handicap of 10, returned a nett 65 to collect the coveted Club Medal. A level par front nine which included birdies at the 5 th and 8 th holes, was backed up with a five-over-par back nine for that winning nett 65 score.
A shot behind in runners up spot was Caolan McBride, a 21-handicapper, who will otherwise have been very happy but for the triple-bogey 7 at the par 4 17 th hole.

PAUL Quinn kicked off his 50 th birthday celebrations at the week-end by collecting the Hirsh Cup at County Armagh Golf Club.
The trophy is one of the oldest in the club's collection and perhaps a fitting presentation for the half-century milestone being marked by the 17-handicapper who produced a superb nett 65 to win the competition played for annually and sponsored by Cormac Knott's NetStretch Limited Web Design Agency.
The Hirsh Cup is presented to Paul Quinn by Cormac Knott from Netstretch Ltd, sponsors of the annual stroke competition at County Armagh Golf Club, and Club Captain Martin Oliver. Included also are category prizewinners Brendan Beagan, Eamon Toner and Shea Smith

The Macmillan Charity Stableford Competition very generously sponsored by V Mone and Son of Keady was played this week in lovely weather. The winner was Nicola Spence with 37 points closely followed by Eilish Grimes with 36 points who beat Valerie Gordon on countback.

WHILE his ‘better half', Lady Vice-Captain Gail, looks forward to a big year in office, Andrew Steed is content at least the spotlight is shining on him for one week this season.
And as winner of the magnificent Bumble Bee Cup, he's every bit deserving of the attention.
Andrew's nett 65 was the top score in the annual stroke competition sponsored by the Victoria Bar, Armagh.

MICHAEL Smyth had to dig deep for victory in County Armagh's PGA Tankard competition, sponsored this year by Armagh Potato Company Ltd.
But such was the quality of his harvest – 42 stableford points - the next best in the field was a furrow away – 40 points returned by Stephen Miller.
Consistent scoring throughout saw 20-handicapper Michael produce the winning score – 21 points recorded on each of the front and back nine holes.
Stephen Miller is presented with his prize by PGA Tankard competitions sponsor Charlie Johnston from Armagh Potato Company Ltd and County Armagh Golf Club Captain Martin Oliver.

MARTIN Grimley won the first silverware of the season at County Armagh Golf Club.
The 17-handicapper was the deserved winner of the magnificent CP McNabb Trophy.
An outstanding 45 points, with a birdie 3 at the par 4 17 th hole, secured Martin the win on countback with 11-handicapper Martin Daly, who also returned 45 points.
After nine holes, Martin had amassed a superb 23 points and with a further 22 from the homeward trek, his 45 points won the day. Ironically Marty Daly's front and back nine scores were exactly the same as Martin Grimley's – on countback however, he lost out to the birdie.
