PADDY Digby is being tipped as favourite to lift the Pat Russell Memorial Trophy after topping the County Armagh Golf Club Seniors competition qualifying table for the final week.

With 95 points chalked up over the 12 week qualifying period, Paddy is already guaranteed his place in the 36-hole finals in September.

Only Pascal Toner on 87 points can catch Paddy as the competition enters its final week.

The top 30 senior golfers from the club will qualify for the finals but with the weekly league table showing a plethora of players in with a shout, an exciting climax is anticipated.

COUNTY Armagh Golf Club Captain Pat McAleavey praised members and friends whose donations to the Captain's Day charity, Alzheimer's Research,Â topped £1,000.

Foregoing gifts usually presented to the Captain, Pat encouraged members instead to make a contribution to his chosen charity.

Lady Captain Irene Lutton held her Captain's Day on Saturday last. There was a great turn out from early on for the Coffee Morning and this set the pace for the day. Many of Irene's family and friends were there to join in the celebrations.
Over 100 ladies played for the beautiful prizes which were on display and as the weather was perfect (for a change) there was a great buzz about the clubhouse.

His 28th wedding anniversary was also the day on which he was to win Captain's Day at County Armagh Golf Club!

18-handicapper Gerry returned the top score of 44 points to claim the Captain's prize in the stableford competition.
