The annual McAnerney's Open Charity Stableford competition was held on Thursday 20 th September on a course recovering from the ravages of storm Ali which had raged across the country the previous day leaving behind fallen tree trunks and branches.
The sponsor Mrs Catherine McAnerney held a coffee morning on the day raising over £1,000 for the Hospice . 76 ladies and 18 gentlemen played in the open stableford competition which was generously sponsored by McAnerney's Supermarket Armagh with proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research. The top prize went to Caitlin Hanna (Dungannon) with 40 points beating Lorraine Megaw into second with 38 points. Third place went to Teresa McVeigh with 37 points just ahead of Helen McCourt who took 4 th place with 36 points. The Gross prize was won by June Humphries with 26 gross points.

Monday 17 th September 2018.
The end of the golfing season for the Ladies of County Armagh Golf Club has been traditionally marked by the Past Lady Captain's competition. This year, past Lady Captain, Gail Steed, opted to run a modified 4 Ball team “classic” with a shotgun start, as this format had proved very popular when Una Cullinane used it last year
Past Lady Captain Gail Steed was delighted with the turnout of 19 teams who took part in the competition. Gail thanked last year's Captain Richard Stewart and past Lady Captains Una Cullinane, Audrey Kellet, Flo McCall and Barbara Hamilton who had done so much to help organise and run the classic. She also expressed her appreciation of the support which had been given by the Men's Branch and thanked Paula McCrory for doing the cards. The water bottles for the goody bags were generously sponsored by Eileen Stewart of Armagh Business Centre.
Gail added that the course was in tremendous condition despite the necessary autumn treatment of the greens. While many complained about difficulty finding the pace on the greens, this was not reflected in the scores of the winning teams.

As most of the teams playing comprised of Ladies two prizes were awarded to them along with one for the best men's and mixed teams. In addition, prizes for longest drives and closest to the pins were provided, as well as some spot raffle prizes, thanks to the generosity of the past Lady Captains.

This week's Stableford competition at Co Armagh Golf Club was sponsored by FAB Beauty Salon . Lady Captain Elizabeth Mawhinney sincerely thanked Eimear, who unfortunately couldn't attend the prizegiving, for her generous support for the Ladies Branch. Emear has a long association with the Ladies Branch through her father Pat McKenna and her aunt Kathleen. Fifty-two ladies competed for FAB gift vouchers and aq `\w those not in the winner's enclosure were eligible for spot prizes which Eimear had kindly provided.
The overall winner on the day was Emma Garrigan with an outstanding 45 points. Emma is one of the ladies who joined the club via the Get into Golf Initiative and has flourished, picking up three winner's prizes and two second places along with several category prizes so far this year. A delighted Emma thanked the sponsor and her playing partners Teresa McVeigh and Gemma Rice . Siobhan Donnelly secured second spot with 41 points and third place honours went to Jackie Donnelly with 40 points.

A COLOURFUL HISTORY AND GREAT LOVE OF THE GAME
Set in the magnificent Georgian palace demesne of Archbishop Robinson with panoramic views of the historic city and its surrounding countryside, County Armagh Golf Club is surely one of the most picturesque golfing locations in Ulster.
Freestanding oaks, chestnuts, beech trees and ash trees line the impressively manicured fairways, with strategically placed bunkers leading to superb greens, many of which are defined by lush floral displays which blossom beautifully in spring and summer. And let's not forget Armagh's two stunning Cathedrals, which provide a truly enchanting backdrop to any round.
County Armagh Golf Club is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and it has been a memorable few months for a club that combines a colourful history with a great love of the game and an admirable community spirit.

Traipsing aimlessly around IKEA. Wrestling glumly with garden weeds. Perching on a bar stool but wishing dearly to be somewhere else. These are perhaps just some of the ways in which County Armagh's male membership tried, and most likely failed, to cope with a rare golf-less Saturday on 1 September, when the Ladies' Armaghdale Cup took precedence.
Twenty-four hours later, then, 146 coiled-spring hopefuls were positively chomping at the bit to get back out on the fairways and stake their claim for September Medal glory. And alongside Adam Cromwell, Stephen Nugent, Keith Stewart, Brendan Arthurs and Andrew Conn, the name of Tomas McElmeel can now be added to the final list of CAGC's 2018 monthly Medal recipients.
In the competition sponsored by Holmes and Doran Surveyors Ltd, McElmeel plundered the Sunday spoils with a superb nett 66. The winning round had started in unpromising fashion, but Tomas soon found his stride with four consecutive pars from the 4th to the 7th.
Then, on the homeward strait, a birdie at the 15th backed up further pars at the 11th, 13th and 14th and ultimately cemented a fine Medal success. McElmeel will no doubt be chuffed at acquiring a one-shot handicap reduction in addition to the September silverware.
