AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

Lady Captain, Lily McMullan welcomed a large number of ladies to prize-giving for the Parker Bowl competition at Co Armagh Golf Club on Thursday 18 May 2023. The competition was very generously sponsored by Mr Arnold Courtney, the Parker Bowl having been presented to the Ladies’ Branch in memory his late Aunt and Uncle.

A special welcome was extended to Mr Courtney who was in attendance to presented the prizes and the Bowl.

Lady Vice Captain Ellen Brady won the Parker Bowl with a fabulous 42 points and Maggie McKee was second with 38 points. Paula McCrory won the gross prize with 28 gross points. Phil Rice was third with 38 pts.

The category winners were:

Cat A – Gail Steed                                            32 pts

Cat B – Gillian Poole (beating Valerie Gordon on the better back 9)      31 pts

Cat C – Caitlin McKinney                                   36 pts

Cat D – Maura McCoy                                       33 pts

Hilary Johnston won the back 9 with 18 pts and Vera Ellingham the front 9 with 20 pts.

The 9 hole competition was won by Anne Cairns with 20 pts and Gemma Rice was second with 17 pts.

Birdies were recorded by Hilary Johnston at the 2nd, Paula McCrory at the 12th and Ellen at the 16th. There were twos for Valerie Gordon at the temporary 2nd and the 9th, Gemma Rice and Vera Ellingham at the 7th, LVC Ellen Brady at the 7th and 13th and Bernie Rice at the 13th.

Accepting the Parker Bowl from Mr Courtney a delighted Ellen extended thanks to him for his sponsorship of the competition.

The competition was also a qualifier competition for the Mary Peters Trust tournament later in the year and LVC Ellen will represent Co Armagh Golf Club at this event.
