Helen Collects Captains PrizeThe lady captain Hilary Johnston welcomed a large number of family, friends and golfers to join her on her lady captain's day at County Armagh Golf Club on Saturday last. Weather conditions were generally fair which contributed to good scores. The course was immaculate on the day and missed putts could not be blamed on the green staff.

103 ladies competed for the gorgeous array of prizes beautifully displayed in the clubhouse. The day started with the traditional coffee morning hosted by the Lady Captain. Hilary was joined by her family, friends and members of the golf club. The hard working committee left no stone unturned to make this event a great success.

Helen McLaughlin returned the top score on the day with 41 points. Helen who is the Juvenile Girls convener was a very popular winner. Helen's dedication and hard work with the younger golfers has clearly helped her own golf and was honoured recently at the Armagh Sports Forum. What a great achievement for the retired teacher from the Newry Road .One point behind Helen was Lorraine Megaw who collected the runner up prize and the best gross score on the day with 25 points was returned by Barbara Gartland.

The category winners were: A Barbara Hamilton 36, B: Toni McManus 39, C: Vera Ellingham 38, D: Joy Steenson 36. The front 9 was Gillian Poole's 21, and Brigid McEnaney was best with 22 on the back 9. The past lady captain was Flo McCall 37, Ann McDonald 35 won the Committee Prize, and the Mystery Prize was Carmel Cassidy's with 38. The country/student/overseas/youth prize was collected by Carina Oliver .Senior lady on the day was Bernie Gribben with 37 points. The 9 hole putting competition senior was Kathleen Mallon, the 18 hole putting was Emma Oliver's with 34 putts . Senior ladies 9 hole Berry O'Doherty 18 pts. Michael Calvert was the top man and the visitor prize was collected by Dawn Boyd. Senior juvenile girl was Ciarrai Devlin with 29 while Blaithin McReynolds was the best junior juvenile girl. The senior juvenile boy winner was Connor Lavery 44 while the junior juvenile boy was Sean Reilly 39 points. The standard scratch was 70 which resulted in 7 players having their handicaps reduced: C Oliver, C Cassidy, H McLaughlin, L McGaw, Toni McManus, U Cullinane and V Ellingham.

In a packed clubhouse after a sumptuous meal provided by the management and staff of the Green Room the lady captain presented the prizes to all the winners. Hilary thanked all the people who made her day such a great success including the incoming captain Irene. The past lady captain Paula McCrory proposed the vote of thanks which was seconded by Flo McCall after which Paula presented the lady captain with a bouquet of flowers. After the formalities the ladies danced the night away to the wee small hours.
