An impressive 22 points were racked up over the front nine holes where he birdied the par three third hole. And a further 19points on the back nine, where a second birdie was recorded on the par five 12th hole, secured the coveted trophy for Pete.

Gerard produced a contrasting performance scoring 20 points over the front nine and adding a further 19 on the back, but off his 17-handicap he was thoroughly deserving of his second place.

Pat lifts Lenagh Trophy

Pat lifts Lenagh Trophy

PAT Brannigan was the popular winner of the prestigious Gerry Lenagh Trophy with an untouchable 44 points in the club stabelford competition.

The magnificent piece of silverware which has been played for at County Armagh Golf Club since 1971, was once again presented by Mrs Pat Lenagh, wife of the late Gerry who died 42 years ago on the course while playing a round with his local doctor.

The affable Pat Brannigan, playing off a handicap of 17, produced that winning score with some very steady scoring on his outward trek yeilding 21 points, backed up with an even more impressive back nine score of 23 points.

John Quinn was his nearest challenger with 43 points, equalling Pat's front nine 21 points but coming up one short on his homeward trek with 22 points.

George Gillespie rued his failure to score a the sixth hole as he stomped to 42 points which secured him third prize. And Jonathan Black, a regular among the prizewinners of late, produced 42 points also only to be beaten into fourth place on countback.

Brendan Toner led home a trio on 41 points, his better back nine 23points taking fifth; Michael Curley was sixth and Ciaran McCreesh was seventh.
