Happy Easter for Philip

A par-four finish had Philip Richards celebrating at Easter - it guaranteed him top prize in County Armagh Golf Club's Easter Stableford competition.

Philip returned 44 points to take the honours ahead of Leo King who almost certainly lost out with a 'no-score' at the 10th hole.

In ideal golfing conditions Philip's was a consistent round - 22points over both front and back nines - and even with 'dings' at the 7th and 15th holes he was still to finish ahead of the pack. But it was the par at the last which he will say ultimately clinched the prize for him ahead of Leo who bogeyed the hole.

Basil Walker headed the category prizes claiming first prize among the low handicappers with a superb 40 points, although it was on countback that he pushed Michael Gill - also on 40 points - into second place. Michael no doubt, will not want reminding of his 24 points on the front nine.

Mark Stevenson marked his return to the course after a year out by winning Category 2 with 40 points, also on countback. Ian Millar came closest and he too had 24 points on the front nine.

Gary Lappin's 41 points earned him first prize in Category 3, and that included a 'ding' at the 17th. Runner up was Stephen Weir with 40 points from a round which included 'no-scores' at the first, eighth and 15th holes.

Conor McGurgan for a second consecutive week, picked up the Gross Prize with 72.

Meanwhile, in Portugal Johnny Palmer, who is 'on tour' with Roy Turner, David Baird and Alan Johnston, returned 45 points - one for the Handicap Convenor to consider perhaps!
