Age no barrier for Open Winner Roy

ROY Turner may have just recently picked up his penioner's bus pass, but after winning the Cross Group sponored Open Stableford at County Armagh he reminded all those of a lesser age, he hasn't lost his winning ways.

Roy was two points better than all the rest in the Saturday event which welcomed visitors from far and wide. 42 points was the winning score amassed by Roy in a fourball which also included a Gross prize winner James Johnston.

23 points were chalked up over the first nine holes with a birdie 2 at the 7th hole to highlight a one-over par outward trek. He bagged another birdie at the par-five 12th hole and skilfully managed the five remaining holes to add a further 19 points to his front-nine tally for a final and winning total of 42 points.

Dublin golfer Darragh McCusker, playing off 15, in contrast, chalked up 23 points over the back nine holes. And with 17 from the front nine deservedly took home the runner's up prize.

Portadown Golf Club member Neil Aston was the first of three golfers returning scores of 39 points. His better back nine beat Conor Woods, who recorded five birdies on the day, and Art McCrory, respectively.

Gary McCourt banked sixth with 38 points and Andrew Allen brought up the rear with a similar 38 points losing out to Gary on a back nine countback.

The top Gross Score of the day was produced by John Magire (35pts) with James Johnston runner up  (32pts).
