Joy's FAB Win

At sun soaked County Armagh on Thursday last Joy Steenson returned the best score of the day with 39 points to claim first prize. This club stableford competition is very generously sponsored by FAB formerly of Scotch St now relocated at the City Hotel Armagh.

The proprietor Eimear McKenna presented the prizes in a packed clubhouse to the various winners. The lady captain Hilary Johnston thanked Eimear for her continued support 0f the ladies branch and wished her well at her new location.

Una Cullinnane and Bridget McEnaney returned 37 points each with Una just securing the runners up spot on the count back. The following were the of category winners. A: Barbara Gartland 36 pts. B: Gail Steed 34 pts. C: Anne McDonald 36 pts. D: Sylvia Ash 35 pts. The best score on the front 9 was 21 pts from Teresa Corrigan, and Jacqueline Kelly returned 20 pts to claim the best back 9. As a little extra on the day the ladies took part in a putting competition during their round of golf and the top putter was Karen Edgar with 27 putts over the 18 holes. The top par lady on the day was Molly Conway with 32 pts. The only handicap reduction to take place was Joy Steensons. The lady captain wished all the teams well in their matches with two teams already in semi-finals and three others almost there.

Lynn Leads the Way

Sixty one ladies competed for the P.G.A. Tankard kindly sponsored by Killeen Hardware, Newry Rd, Armagh. The early birds got the best of the weather on a beautifully manicured course.

Local government official Lynn Brown collected first prize with a fantastic score of 41 stableford points. Lynn who has featured regularly amongst the winners this year has had her handicap cut on several occasions and lost another two shots this week. Four points adrift was Teresa McVeigh in second place and Moya Brady also returned 37 points to pick up third prize. Barbara Hamilton, Emma Oliver, Phil McKenna, Paula McCrory, and Hilary Johnston all scored 37 points.

Helen Collects Captains Prize

Helen Collects Captains PrizeThe lady captain Hilary Johnston welcomed a large number of family, friends and golfers to join her on her lady captain's day at County Armagh Golf Club on Saturday last. Weather conditions were generally fair which contributed to good scores. The course was immaculate on the day and missed putts could not be blamed on the green staff.

103 ladies competed for the gorgeous array of prizes beautifully displayed in the clubhouse. The day started with the traditional coffee morning hosted by the Lady Captain. Hilary was joined by her family, friends and members of the golf club. The hard working committee left no stone unturned to make this event a great success.

Eileen and Lynne lift cup and shield

The Fox Cup and Culmore Shield were played for at a showery County Armagh Golf Club on Thursday last. This competition is very generously sponsored by Karine & Co Mall Shopping Centre Armagh.

The best score on the day was returned by Lynne Brown who had a fantastic score of 63 net and collected the Culmore Shield. Lynne was 8 shots clear of her nearest challenger Vera Ellingham with 71 and Dorothy Harris collected 3 rd place with a 72. The front 9 prize went to Eilish Grimes with 31 and the back 9 prize was picked up by Grace Magown with 37 net.

Meanwhile the Fox Cup competition was a much tighter affair with only 2 shots separating the top three. Eileen Fitzsimons and Siobhan Donnelly returned 67 net and after a count back Eileen collected the Fox Cup. They were closely followed by Carina Oliver with a 69. The front nine was won with 33 shots by Gail Steed and Moya Brady's 35.5 shots was the best back nine score. There were a few handicap cuts, Eileen and Siobhan each lost a shot but the most significant cut belonged to Lynne with a whopping cut of 3 shots.

The lady captain presented the prizes to the various winners and she thanked the sponsors for their continued support of the ladies branch.

Rice Sponsored Marie Curie

Glorious conditions prevailed at sun soaked County Armagh Golf Club on Thursday last. Seventy ladies competed for the much sought after hampers sponsored by Rice's supermarket Victoria St Keady.

The competition format was 4 ball better ball and the top 4 places had to be decided on count back's. The winners were the combination of Ann McDonald and Eilish Grimes who returned a great score of 44 stableford points. The youthful pairing of Aideen Cannavan and Carina Oliver secured 2 nd place also scoring 44 points.

Second and third places could not be separated even with a count back as both pairings returned identical cards. Joint second place went to Bernie Rice and Caitlin McKinney and Paula McCrory and Myrtle Rhodie. The 9 hole single's competition was collected by O Gannon.

Mrs Phil Rice from Rice's supermarket presented the beautiful prizes in a packed clubhouse. The lady captain Hilary Johnston thanked the sponsor for their continued support of the ladies branch.

Hilary congratulated all the club teams who are making steady progress in the various competitions. At the minute we have 7 teams in contention. They are The Senior Foursomes, The Intermediate, Junior Foursomes, The Meile, The Junior Cup, The Minor Cup and The Challenge Cup. These teams all have important matches in the next few weeks and we wish them all well.

Another good turn out for the ladies on their best day ‘weatherwise' for quite some time. Course was playing well and the scores reflected that.

Fionnuala and Nichola the Wright Two

A good turnout of ladies competed for the Daisy Ferguson greensomes at a very cold windy and wet County Armagh golf course on Thursday last. This competition is generously sponsored by Wright's Interiors and restaurant Russell St Armagh.

The best combination on the day was Fionnuala Quinn and Nichola Spence who returned a good score of 38 stableford points and edged Lynn Brown and Siobhan Donnelly into second place also returning 38 points with a better back 9. Just a point adrift in 3 rd was Rene Calvert and Mary Knott. Even though the weather was wintry the greens were in pristine condition.

The lady captain Hilary Johnston welcomed a large turnout of ladies in the clubhouse to the presentation of prizes. She thanked the sponsors for their continued support of the ladies branch. Preparations are in full swing now for lady captains which is on 15 th June

Carina Collects Oliver Prize

The stroke competition played at County Armagh Golf Club on Thursday last was played for by 54 ladies in mixed weather. Oliver's Fruit and Vegetable store on Thomas Street Armagh very kindly sponsor this competition annually. It was also a qualifier for the Steenson Bowl which was kindly donated by Eileen Steenson, and the top 16 ladies go forward to play for the bowl.

The top golfer on the day was Carina Oliver with a fantastic score of 63 and was a clear 7 shots ahead of her nearest rival Emma Oliver. The gross was won with an 85 by June Humpheries, and Lynn Brown was 3 rd with 71. Carina's handicap dropped a whopping 6 shots while Lynn reduced hers by 1 shot.

The category winners were as follows: A G Rafferty 71, B L Megaw 75, C L Abbott 76, D D Carolan 78. The front 9 was B Hamilton's with 30.5 and K Edgar was best with 34.5 on the back 9. The par lady was C McAleavey and the 9 hole prize was picked up by Judith Humperies.

The past captain Paula McCrory presented the prizes to the winners in the absence of the lady captain. Paula thanked both sponsors for their generosity to the club.
