Ever since their introduction back in 2015, County Armagh Golf Club's Wednesday Open and Open Seniors tournaments have proved extremely popular among both members and visitors too impatient to wait until the weekend for a slice of white-marker qualifying action.
These midweek stableford competitions have continued in earnest on the Cathedral City fairways this summer, and the 26 June iteration saw Michael Calvert prevail among the under-50s with a marvellous 41-point scorecard showing 39 strokes on each nine.. On the same day, Enda O'Reilly birdied the 4th and 8th and eventually returned a wonderful 41-point total that proved unbeatable in the Seniors event.
Andrew McCrea romped to victory in a stroke event at County Armagh Golf Club on 14 July with an outstanding nett 62 that simply blew away his 105 on-course rivals.
Playing off 17 at the start of proceedings, McCrea reached the turn in just 37 hits, with a birdie on Lady Anne's Walk and four other pars contributing greatly to his speedy outward progress.

In a welcome break from the necessarily selfish nature of individual competition, County Armagh Golf Club hosted a Four-Ball Team Classic on 13 July.
The event’s all-conquering quartet was made up of Johnny Palmer, Art McCrory, Brian McGuigan and David Spratt on 101 points. Next in the Saturday pecking order was the merry band of Peter Conway, Jim McCreesh, Eamon McCaffrey and Paul McCreesh, whose 98-point collective was two better than the score recorded by the third-placed bunch of Jerome Leer, Cormac O’Hare, Gervase Hughes and Paul Corvan.
While his son Adam has been attracting more of the plaudits at County Armagh Golf club of late, Neil Cromwell’s recent competition victory served as a reminder that there’s more than one accomplished player in that particular household.
Cromwell Senior’s wonderful level-par round on 30 June comprised four birdies, four bogeys and 10 pars. And that earned him 39 points, which topped the leaderboard in a Club Stableford event.
