AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

MARTIN Grimley won the first silverware of the season at County Armagh Golf Club.

The 17-handicapper was the deserved winner of the magnificent CP McNabb Trophy.

An outstanding 45 points, with a birdie 3 at the par 4 17 th hole, secured Martin the win on countback with 11-handicapper Martin Daly, who also returned 45 points.

After nine holes, Martin had amassed a superb 23 points and with a further 22 from the homeward trek, his 45 points won the day. Ironically Marty Daly's front and back nine scores were exactly the same as Martin Grimley's – on countback however, he lost out to the birdie.

Brendan Powell led home the category winners with 44 points winning the 0-12 handicaps – a ‘no-score' at the 16 th lakes hole ultimately costing him. But his 44 points was still two better than category runner up Adam Hunniford on 42 points.

Newcomer Nelson Weir won the mid-handicap section with 43 points just pipping Denis Hughes to the prize on countback when Denis also returned 43 points.

And 44 points from Jason Rolston won the high-handicappers category where Shane O'Halleron claimed the runners up prize with 43 points.
