AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

The Ladies Miele team travelled to Tullamore, Co Offally to take on Rockmount in the regional final of the Miele All Ireland Inter Club Fourball on Monday 5 th September. Five rounds of tight matches had led to this eagerly awaited final, Armagh having defeated Clones, Fintona, Rossmore, Enniskillen and Tandragee to get there. This was a great achievement for the team, having reached the final for the second time in three years. The team led by Team Captain Mrs Elizabeth Mawhinney consisted of team veterans Mrs Ellen Brady, Mrs Valerie Gordon, Miss Paula McCrory, Mrs Lillian McMullan, Mrs June Humphries, Mrs Flo McCall, Mrs Teresa McVeigh and Mrs Gail Steed. Reserves were Mrs Moya Brady and Mrs Pauline Gingles and Mrs Joy Steenson assisting as Team Manager.

The parkland course of Tullamore tested both teams with its beautifully manicured greens and challenging dogleg holes, numerous bunkers and well placed water hazards. With the encouragement of the many home supporters who had travelled down for the big occasion Armagh Ladies started off well with good drives at the first tee – an achievement in itself! The standard of golf played was of a high standard and the holes were being won and lost with parrs and birdies. Armagh were unlucky on a few holes and with two matches lost and the other two tightly contested Rockmount were to come out victorious despite the valient efforts of all involved. Lady Captain Margaret Marjoram was there to cheer on her team and congratulated them on getting to the final, for playing the matches in great spirit and for being gracious in defeat.
