AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

THERE'S to be another Lenagh name engraved in the Gerry Lenagh Trophy – that of Declan Lenagh who lifted the magnificent piece of silverware during Open Week at County Armagh Golf Club.

County Armagh Golf Club Captain Richard Black presents the Lenagh Memorial Trophy to Declan Lenagh, winner of the Open Week major Stableford competition which was sponsored by Morgan McLernon Transport Distribution. Included also are runners up Gerry McCreesh, Gerard Mone, Andrew Millar, Patrick Brannigan, Cormac O'Hare and Joe Rooney.

Declan, from that same Lenagh family circle, returned a superb 45 points to take the prize – recording an unbeatable 25 points over the back nine holes to compliment 20 points on his outward trek.

Cormac O'Hare will undoubtedly have believed his 44 points was winning it. But he had to settle for the runner's up prize. He too produced a superb back nine score of 23 points on top of 21 from the front nine.

Rain showers disrupted much of the play in this the penultimate of a week long list of competitions at County Armagh.

Master Joe Rooney however, wasn't put off by the wet and windy conditions when he penciled in 24 points for this first nine holes. He added a further 19 from the back nine holes. But even his superb 43 points reaped reward of only a third prize on the day.

Honorary Secretary Patrick Brannigan meanwhile, tapped into his rich vein of winning form of late to take fourth place with 41 points. Gerard Mone was just a point behind on 40 for fifth prize – wining on count back from Gerry McCreesh, also on 40 points.

And bringing up the rear of the prize list on the day was Paul Smyth with 39 points.
