AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

GLEN Baird was following in his father Gary's prize-winning footsteps as he picked up the Bankers Cup.

Glen Baird is presented with the Bankers Cup by Bernard Grimley, from Bank of Ireland. Included also are County Armagh Golf Club Vice Captain Martin Oliver, Jerome Leer and Gary McDonald.

Last month Gary collected runners-up prizes in the County Armagh April Medal and Hirsch Cup competitions. But son Glen will lay claim to the household bragging rights by winning the club's Bankers Cup competition, sponsored by Bank of Ireland.

In fact it turned out to be quite a pay-day for Glen, recording birdies at the 7 th and 11 th holes on his way to a nett 63 score.

G McDonald was just a point behind on nett 64 and he too was among the birdie prizes with a ‘2' at the par three 3 rd hole. Had he not dropped a massive four shots at the 17 th hole his would surely have been the name in lights for this competition.

Jerome Leer's nett 68 was a warning shot across the bow and earned him the Category 1 first prize. His big win was reserved for the following day's May Medal competition. Paul Doyle was runner up in the same category with a similar net 68 – a dropped shot at the final hole proving very costly indeed.

Sean Dougan has hit good form in recent weeks and was rewarded with the Category 2 first prize after returning a nett 66 – birdies at the 2 nd and 11 th holes the highlights of his round. And Brendan McKinney was runner, two shots adrift on nett 68.

In Category 3, Brendan Lynch topped the prize list with a nett 68 and JP Hughes, three shots behind with a nett 71, picking up the runner's up prize.
