AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

At level par through 14 holes, Mark Shannon would surely have believed the Woods Silver Salver was his for the taking in the recent scratch competition at County Armagh.

County Armagh Golf Club Captain Richard Black presents the Woods Silver Salver to Mark Shannon.

Three consecutive bogeys followed however, and a double bogey to close his round.

But his finishing gross 74 was still enough to take the prize – by two strokes!

Mark, playing of a handicap of seven, had kick-started his round with birdies at the 2 nd , 6 th , 7 th and 8 th holes to complete the front nine holes in 39 strokes.

And when he added further birdies at the 11 th , 12 th and 14 th , a winning score appeared forthcoming. Three bogeys and that double at the 18 th was sorely disappointing – but his gross score 74 still turned out to be the best on the day.

Killylea man Neil Linton was runner up with a Gross 76. Double bogeys at the 1 st and 6 th holes cost him dearly over the front nine holes which he completed in 39 strokes to compliment a one-over par back nine.
