Webster Cup joy for Brian

BRIAN McGuigan will have his name engraved on the Webster Cup after producing the winning round in the scratch competition at County Armagh

Playing off a handicap of 10, Brian shot a gross 75 to clinch the trophy which is played for annually in memory of the former club member Billy Webster.

It was a superb one-over par back nine which saw him triumph. After bogeying the first three holes and the 5th, he birdied the sixth to somewhat repair the damage, but dropped a further shot at the 8th.

However, he kicked off the back nine with birdie, par, birdie, par before dropping another shot. Two further bogeys at 16 and 17 were recorded but his gross 75 was to prove the best on the day among the club's 10-18 handicappers.

Paul Corvan's regular weekly practice paid off handsomely when he picked up the runners up prize in the competition. His gross 76 was achieved with a one over par back nine after a five over par outward trek.

Ian Ritchie meanwhile, added to his recent prize haul after signing for the best nett score on the day - an outstanding nett 59. But it was not without pain - incurring the wrath of the handicap convenor with a five-shot cut for recent achievements.
