AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

Pedlow's perfect prep for Captain's Day

ALAN Pedlow completed the perfect preparation for Captain's Day at County Armagh with victory in the last club competition before the big event.

The quietly-spoken newly-wed, playing off a handicap of six, produced a one-under par round for a nett 63 to win the club stroke event.

It was the 9th hole before he dropped a shot. But a birdie 3 at the 5th hole compensated to leave him level par at the turn.

Seven pars followed, then a birdie 3 and a par to finish a truly superb one-under par round.

Early-bird Andrew Allen returned an equally impressive nett 63 but was to lose out to Alan on countback.

With his spanking new Nike collection of driver and woods, Jimmy Wilson was out to impress, and did so with some gusto - a level par round and nett 65 score claiming first prize in Category 1. The five-handicapper's only blemishes bogeys at the 4th and 17th holes compensated by way of birdies at the 10th and 11th holes.

His namesake Kyle Wilson, of a handicap of seven, also returned a nett 65 to take the category runners up prize.

Kenny Richardson was two shots better than all the rest in Category 2. His nett 65 secured despite double bogeys at the 5th and 16th holes. Fred Hanna was runner up with a nett 67 - three double bogeys on his card costing him dearly.

And in Category 3 John Grant claimed the first prize with a nett 64. Michael Smyth was a shot further adrift on nett 65.
